Marjorie Schmidt, 95, Caldwell: April 12, 1926 – Dec. 27, 2021

Marjorie Schmidt

Marjorie Jenavee was born April 12, 1926, the oldest daughter of James H. and Alta (Gailey) Davis in Hooker County, Nebraska, where she grew up attending District #6, Seneca and Mullen Schools.

She met Bud Edelman at a basketball tournament in Seneca, fell in love, and was married on November 19, 1942. Their union brought four daughters.  She was a loyal and devoted wife for 51 years.  Bud died on February 25, 1994. On October 21, 2000, she married Robert F. Schmidt, where they had three short years together when Robert died on November 13, 2003.

Among her tributes was her love of family.  Cooking was a joy for her. She held big family dinners all of her life.

Children were her special love and she worked in Girl Scouting many years,  holding the office of neighborhood chairman and forming a lone troop in Nebraska.  She taught Sunday school, bible school, and was a member of the United Methodist Church serving on the Council of Ministries several times, and was an active member of United Methodist Women. She belonged to Extension Home Makers for 28 years and also helped organize and form the senior center in Maize, KS, “Young at Heart”.

Marjorie served many times on the Board of the Caldwell Senior Center and was a delegate for Sumner County Senior Services for Caldwell. She was also a member of Busy Hands and Happy Hatters.

During her working years, she owned two restaurants, managed Tetins Deli in Wichita, and served as USD 266 Food Service Director until her retirement in 1985.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Patty Schon.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Boor, Ronalda Ferguson, and Belva Boykin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Private family graveside services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the Caldwell United Methodist Church or to the Sumner County District #1 Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary.
