Marvin Elwood Simonton, of Belle Plaine, Kansas, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 91.

Marvin was born the son of Earl and Elizabeth (Edmundson) Simonton on April 4, 1935, in Cromwell, Oklahoma.

Marvin, a dedicated and talented man of many passions, left an indelible mark on the world with his creative spirit. His melodies, imbued with the rhythm of his soul, echoed through the strings of his guitar, captivating audiences as he sang with his band, “Anything Country”.

Marvin’s love for music was only rivaled by his affinity for woodworking. His skilled hands crafted exquisite frames, cabinets, and countertops, each piece a testament to his artistic prowess and meticulous attention to detail. He was known for being the best hugger, an attribute that will be missed by many. He was a Christian man and had a strong faith in the Lord.

Marvin spent 12 years working for Sumner County as the Planning and Zoning Director and retired in 2000.

Marvin’s sense of adventure led him to explore the world with his beloved wife, Nita. Together, they discovered the charm of Montreal, the vibrancy of Alaska, the rhythm of Nashville, and the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Grand Canyon. Each trip was an opportunity for Marvin to soak up inspiration for his music and woodworking, enlivening his creative spirit.

Marvin is survived by his devoted wife, Nita Simonton, his loving children, Mona (Andre) Anz, Charles (Christiane) Simonton, Marsha Sawyer, Troy (Ruthy) Simonton, his caring brothers, Paul (Connie) Simonton and Robert L. Simonton, and his adoring 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 bonus grandsons, 2 bonus granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Simonton and Elizabeth Simonton, his sister, Betty Brady, his brothers, Earl “Red/Bill” Simonton, “Richard” Simonton, Robert E. Simonton, and his sister, Margaret “Sally” Rich.

Viewing for Marvin will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1030 Mission Rd, Wellington, Kansas, 67152. A Funeral Service will will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. at the Ford Cemetery in Ford, Kansas.

Memorial donations may be made to the Osawatomie Chapter KOFPS. Contributions may be mailed to or left with the funeral home.

Marvin’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his caregivers Chenae, Dylan, Miranda, Domeeka, Shirley, and Tootie for the wonderful care and support they provided to him.
