Mobile home is total loss after Sunday afternoon fire
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington Fire Department doused a mobile home fire Sunday afternoon that caused an estimated $3,000 in damage. There were no injuries.
At 2:15 p.m., the WFD responded to the fire at 1623 Adams in Wellington. Shawn Redford owned the structure and was living there at the time, according to the WFD press release.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the mobile home. Flames soon broke through two windows. Firefighters pulled two hose lines and began attacking the fire from the outside and interior. A water supply line was secured to a fire hydrant to the south.
Inside the mobile home, there were hoarding conditions. Because of the high concentration of debris, firefighters searched the trailer twice for victims. The mobile home is considered a total loss due to fire and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was the malfunctioning of the propane heater.
There was 17 fire personnel on the scene. Fire District 9, Mayfield, and Oxford fire departments brought in mutual aid. Wellington Police and the City of Wellington Electric also assisted.
