Game synopsis below

BASEBALL 

Wellington’s James Redford with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh narrows the margin to 8-7. Unfortunately, Wellington could not capitalize thereafter.

Wellington has fallen to 3-3 after opening the season at 3-0. Game 1 was especially galling for the Dukes because they outhit the Spartans 10-5 and committed five errors. Wellington’s demise resulted in two base-running mistakes in the bottom of the sixth.

Collegiate opened with a 4-1 lead and was up 7-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Crusaders then scored two runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh. Redford (in the bottom of the seventh) got a home run over the left field fence to narrow the margin to one. But with the tying run on first, Colton Bannister hit into a double play.

Along with Redford’s home run Hank Shinliver, Grady Norris and Skyler Branum (twice) all doubled. Branam allowed four hits, three walks and struck out three on the mound. G. Norris allowed one hit in the seventh in relief.

In game two, Wellington opened with a 3-1 first-inning lead, but would not cross home plate again until the bottom of the sixth. It was 4-all going into the top of the seventh, when Collegiate exploded for eight runs, including a grand slam home run by J. Stehley.

Redford had three hits in the game including a triple. Wellington went through four pitchers allowing 12 hits and 10 earned runs. The Crusaders committed three errors in game two.

Wellington opened the 2025 campaign at Crestview Country Club, finishing 11th. Andover won the event with a 301. Bishop Carroll had a 307, Goddard Eisenhower 307, Kapaun Mt. Carmel 316, Andale 327, W. Trinity 331, Andover Central 336, Goddard 338, Valley Center 340, Hesston 341, Wellington 342, Collegiate 348, Maize 353, Augusta 353, Buhler 355.
