Mutts and margaritas to raise funds to upgrade library’s elevators has been rescheduled
Editor’s note: The original date of this fundraiser event has been changed from Friday, July 29 to Friday, Aug. 5, 7-9 p.m.
by Amber Countryman, Sumner Newscow — Bring man’s best friend on a leash to enjoy “Yappy Hour” Mutts and Margaritas on the Wellington Public Library lawn Friday, Aug. 5, 7-9 p.m.
The event intends to raise funds for a much-needed upgrade to the library’s elevator. The current elevator was installed in 1986 during the library’s expansion project and last major fundraising event. To modernize the elevator to ADA compliant with current codes and standards, will cost approximately $14,000.
Since that time, the library has maintained the elevator and made sure needed repairs were made.
Advance tickets include two drinks and hors d’oeuvres, for a cost of $25 per person. All ticket sales are final. There will be live music on the lawn and prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed mutt. For an additional donation, you can get your picture taken with your furry friend by local photographer Rhonda Newberry.
Doggy treat bags will be given to participants. The event is for ages 21+. Feel free to leave your furry friend at home if you wish. If you don’t own a dog, you’re still welcome to attend.
All dogs must be on a leash and be current on vaccinations. Please pick up after your pet. Not responsible for accidents.
Sponsorships are still coming in, and current sponsors are VFW, American Legion, Fabiola’s, and Renn Insurance.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be Friday, Aug. 5.
Tickets are may be purchased at the library, 121 W. 7th, from any library board member, or online through the library’s website, www.wellingtonpubliclibrary.org. Come relax, network and socialize with fellow dog lovers, have a “howling” good time and support the library.
