Myrtle Jarboe, 93, Oxford: Sept. 13, 1922 – March 26, 2016
Myrtle Jarboe, 93, of Oxford died Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 at The Oxford Funeral Service Chapel in Oxford. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Memorial has been established with the Oxford Friendship Center or Oxford Cave Park for Children’s play equipment and may be left with Oxford Funeral Service. Myrtle Mae Jarboe was born the daughter of Thomas and Bonnie (Benge) Hare on September 13, 1922 in Conway Springs, Kansas. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1940 and attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK. On June 17, 1942 Myrtle was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Jarboe in Wellington, KS, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. While Eugene was in the service she worked for Clarkson & Startz Defense Plant in Wellington, then Beech Aircraft in Wichita. When Eugene returned to the states still in the U.S. Army she went with him to Fayette, North Carolina where he was stationed for 1 year at Fort Bragg.
They then returned to Wellington to make their home and had four children. In 1959 they moved to a farm north of Oxford. Myrtle was a FCE member for 65 years serving many offices in Oxford and Sumner County. She was a member of the St. Patrick Club, the Bag Ladies Quilt Club, and Walnut Valley Quilters Guild and was an Oxford Jayhawk community and clothing leader for ten years. Myrtle was a Guardian/Conservator for several people in Oxford, Wellington, Belle Plaine and Winfield for Kansas Guardianship Program and owned the Variety Shoppe in Oxford for 41 years.
Myrtle is survived by her children: Darrel Jarboe and his wife Stephanie of Cambridge, KS, Tom Jarboe of Oxford, Peggy Nixon and her husband Ken of Oxford and Wilma Jarboe of Hays, KS; 6 grandchildren: Kelly Jarboe and his wife Amy of Grenola, Heath Nixon and his wife Jennifer of Derby, Rusty Jarboe of Oxford, Joshua Nixon of Manhattan, Ashley Steiner and her husband Troy of Hays and Kenzie Ward and her husband Tyler of Newkirk, OK; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eugene in 2012, step-father, Owen Thomas, a sister, Marcella Wrench.
