New Wellington Golf Club Director Derek Harrison announced that two prestigious Kansas Golf Association events are coming to the Wellington golf course.
Wellington has been selected to host the 2014 Sunflower Girls Amateur Championship tentatively scheduled for August 2-3, 2014.
This will bring about 40 young ladies, under the age of 18, and their families to the Wellington Golf Club along with a number of Kansas Golf Association staff.
Wellington will also be hosting the 2015 Boys Junior Amateur Championship which is tentatively scheduled for Monday through Thursday, June 15-18, 2015.
This is the Kansas Golf Association’s second biggest event behind the Kansas Amateur Championship. The KGA advises they average 175 players along with families for this event and being so close to Wichita, the numbers could be a lot more.
This is a 54-hole event and they will play a practice round Monday, two competitive rounds of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday, then they will cut the field down for the final day of the championship which will be played on Thursday. Wellington hasn’t hosted the boys junior amateur championship since 1970.
There is also talks with the KGA to host the 2013 Kansas Cup Finals which is typically held the final weekend in October.
