National Weather Service issues winter weather advisory for Sumner County on Thursday to Satuday
Sumner Newscow report — The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a winter weather advisory including Sumner County in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26 through 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.Â
In a press release sent by the Sumner County Emergency Management office, a slow moving storm system will be hovering over the southwestern United States and will bring a transition from widespread rainfall to a mix of light freezing rain, sleet and snow throughout portions of central and south central Kansas into the Flint Hills late Thursday through Friday night…light ice accumulations are likely in those areas.
Northerly winds of 15 to 20 mph may combine with icing on trees and power lines…resulting in possible sporadic power outages.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of winter weather will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities. Use caution while driving…especially on bridges and overpasses that usually freeze much sooner than roadways.
