New Wellington leadership group is looking for public input on a name (see survey below)
Submitted to Sumner Newscow — A new leadership group, currently unnamed, is asking Sumner Newscow readers and supporters to help them do just that – give themselves a name!
A new group has been formed  as part of the Public Square Communities Initiative that has helped communities all over Kansas re-discover what they are all about so they can move positively into a brighter future.
“The group will be sharing more information about what this means for Wellington specifically as we go further in the project,†said Sara Dixon, a member of the new leadership group. “But our main goal is to move toward having a community conversation to determine ways to make our town stronger and ensure its success in the future.â€
People can log onto www.publicsquarecommunities.com, you can read all about them.
“Since this is a community wide project, we are asking for community input on naming our new group or initiative,†Dixon said. “ Our steering committee has narrowed down to five options, and we would like folks to let us know which one they like best… or if they have a better suggestion.
“We really feel strongly that this process will work, and we absolutely believe we need to do something to bring about positive change in our community to ensure a successful future,†Dixon said. “There is a general feeling of apathy invading our community at an alarming rate.â€
Dixon said that is why the group would like to bring in an outside facilitator, namely Public Square Communities, to assist us in developing a community revitalization project for all four sectors of our community: Government, Human Services, Business, and Education.
“It would be grassroots, utilizing voices from all walks of life, not just those from the top or with the financial resources,†Dixon said. “Having a third party facilitator will give us an outsider’s perspective. It will keep us motivated and positive, and help us to avoid certain challenges.â€
The Public Square model has been utilized by several rural communities all over Kansas with much success, and we are pumped about using it here in Wellington.
Members of the committee include:
Tytus Cornejo
Sara Dixon
Shelley Hansel
Karen Murray
Jarod Nance
