No disciplinary action to be taken after Wellington-Circle scuffle Friday

Sumner Newscow report — The Kansas State High School Activities Association has told Kansas.com that there will be no disciplinary action taken after a scuffle took place with about two minutes to play in Friday night’s game between Wellington and Circle. Jeremy Holaday, assistant executive director of the KSHSAA, said the state received reports from all parties — Wellington, Circle and the officials. He said the schools will decide what they think is appropriate, and the KSHSAA will take no action.

The lone ejection according to the report was a Circle player, who was thrown out shortly before the game was called. The game ended early with Wellington winning 58-8.

Wellington Superintendent Rick Weiss said he does not plan on punishing any Crusader athletes or coaches.

Wellington Head Coach Tyler Ryan did not speak at the weekly Crusader Club on Monday and had no comment on the incident to various media outlets.

Circle USD 375 administrators issued a statement which was published on the KAKE.com website:

The Circle USD 375 Administration has reviewed the circumstances surrounding the Circle vs Wellington
football game on Friday, September 18. We find that many of the social media reports and rumors about
player and coach behaviors are inaccurate.

Although there were certainly moments where our players and coaches could have conducted themselves in a more appropriate manner, many of the reported behaviors were exaggerated or simply inaccurate. We have viewed multiple videos of the events and have determined that our players and coaches have been unfairly portrayed by various media outlets.

Any player/coach contact on the Wellington sideline was not initiated by our player. We are confident that our coaches and administration will address any concerns in a positive manner to help assure that the “right” lessons are learned from our mistakes. We support the decision to end the game early and we take personal responsibility for our contributions which made it a necessity.

We will learn from the unfortunate circumstances of last Friday’s game and we will become better through experiencing the adversity. We are proud of the dedication and commitment that our players and coaches are making in their pursuit of building a good football program at Circle.
