Boys:

Oxford 47 Uniontown 35

Led by Derek Williams with 18 points, the Oxford boys advanced to the second round where it will square off against West Elk in Yates Center.

After a slow start in which Oxford and Uniontown were tied 4-all, the Wildcats would outscore their opponent 11-8, 16-9, and 16-14 in the second, third and fourth quarter.

“We started sluggish in this game,” said Kyle Green, Oxford head boys basketball coach. “We turned the ball over way too much early in the game. Unforced turnovers at that.”

Green said the team made some adjustments at the half and Kurt Sloan hit two shots out of the gate.

“Derek Williams manned up in the second half and was a force,” Green said. “Timmie Catlin also got going and helped us out… That was the turning point of the game.”

Oxford now battles West Elk in Yates Center on Friday at 6 p.m.

“They know us well and we know them,” Green said. “They are all coached. Dave Miller does a great job with them and they are on a mission.

“We have to defend and execute our offense if we want to have a chance.”

Oxford is now 16-5 for the season.
