Oxford wins with another 80+ point ball game, Conway Springs takes control of districts…

Sumner Newscow report — Here is the roundup of other Sumner County football games over the weekend…

Oxford 84 Kiowa County 58

The Oxford Wildcats improved to 5-1 with its second 80-plus point ball game of the year.  Quarterback Johny Schroeder threw for 320 total yards and eight touchdowns in the winning cause, lifting the Wildcats to victory. Cordell Jordan had 205 total yards, three touchdowns, caught three interceptions on defense, and had five two-point tries that were good.

Oxford took a 12-0 lead and held a 20-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. At the half, Oxford was leading 36-28.

In the third quarter, Oxford opened up a 52-36 advantage but Kiowa County scored two touchdowns to tie the game at 52-all. A 22-yard touchdown pass from Schroder to Hunter Pummer broke the tie and gave the Wildcats momentum 60-52 going into the fourth quarter.

From that point forward, Oxford took control of the game, scoring the fourth quarter’s three out of four touchdowns.

Conway Springs 41 Sterling 14

This game was interesting for a while. Sterling led 14-12 at the half, thanks to a Bear 11-yard touchdown run and a 1-yard touchdown pass. The difference was two missed Conway Springs PATs.

But Conway Springs took over the second half with four touchdowns including two Isaac Winter scoring runs, a Cade Howell 9-yard run and a 10-yard Logan Osner run.

The Cardinals pretty much clinched the district title with the win. It would take a total collapse by the Cardinals to lose district — which isn’t likely.
