Payton Ginter place 13th in 4A state tournament; Hanna Hawks wins state championship
Sumner Newscow report — Wellington High School sophomore Payton Ginter placed 13th in the rain delayed Class 4A State girls golf tournament held in Hutchinson’s Carey Park Tuesday. Hanna Hawks of Wellington, representing Wichita Trinity, won the individual state championship.
Ginter shot a 89 on the par 71 golf course. She scored a birdie on hole No. 2. parred hole 8, 16 and 18, and bogeyed or double bogeyed the rest. This marked her second consecutive year participating in the high school state event. There were 91 girls in the event.
Hawks was sensational, shooting a 3-under par and taking a 68. She was seven strokes ahead of the second place winner, Morgan Brasser of Andale, who finished four over with a 75. Hawks had four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey. That’s pretty good.
Caroline Setter, a niece of J.C. Long, was also a top five finisher, placing fourth with a 4-over par.
