People are urged to be extra vigilant with rash of vehicle thefts in Sumner County
Sumner Newscow report — The following is a press release issued through the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office this morning:
———
Sumner County has been inundated with vehicle thefts. Surrounding counties are also dealing with this crime.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take your keys with you and lock the doors to your vehicles.
It only takes about two minutes for someone to drive by and see the keys left in your vehicle. If the door is not locked, they will assume the keys are in the vehicle somewhere and dig to find them. This also gives them the opportunity to take things from your vehicle.
Harvest is coming and we know it is an inconvenience to pass keys to your employees when you are running a farm.
The inconvenience is well worth it to keep from losing your farm equipment. You can assign someone to watch or stay close to the vehicle.
Please, just take the keys.
Deputies have also noticed that most garage doors are left open when people leave their homes. You are advertising your property. Please pull down the garage door and lock it.
In addition, be a vigilant neighbor when you see a vehicle that does not belong in your area. Watch and see what is going on. If you notice, someone parked on a dirt road or by a house, call 911 and watch the person from a safe distance.
We must all work to keep our homes and each other safe.
Let’s keep up the motto: “we are all watching.”
