Peyton Adams and Maggie Fink/Mekenna Adams are still playing in state tennis tourney
Submitted to Sumner Newscow — Wellington has three players still playing on day two of the Class 4A State Girls Tennis Tournament.
Singles Peyton Adams lost her first match to Muller from Topeka Hayden in three sets, then she had to win two matches in a row to be able to play on Saturday. Â She beat Nisley from Nickerson and beat Gibson from Bishop Miege. Â She will open Saturday against Ediger from Mcpherson.
Doubles Maggie Fink & Mekenna Adams won their first match over Baldwin, then lost in three sets to a regional winner from Independence. Â They also had to win two matches and beat Wamego and Pratt. Â They will open play with Mcpherson also.
Doubles Madison Adams and Ryleigh Buck had a rough outing and lost a gut wrenching match at the end. Â They dropped their opening match in three sets to Independence, then beat Parsons. Â In their final match they lost to Topeka Hayden in a tiebreaker.
“Weird things happen on brackets when I saw the matchups after everyone had lost their first match I knew that our #2 doubles possibly had an easier path,” said Brian Aufdengarten, Wellington head tennis coach. “Sometimes with the way regionals are lopsided with good players one part of the bracket ends up a little harder. Â We probably found that out the hard way today. Â I’m proud of our girls playing tomorrow and extremely proud of Madison and Ryleigh also on the whole year.”
