Reichenberger breaks league record in 300 hurdles; girls finish third…
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington boys finished fifth, the Wellington girls placed third and WHS senior Colin Reichenberger broke a league record in the 300-meter hurdles in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. IV meet in Andale Friday afternoon.
The Crusaders finished with 42 points on the boys side. Andale ran away from the competition with 227 points. On the girls side, Wellington had 65 with Andale accumulating 226. Circle was a distant second with 126.
The big news for the Crusader Nation was Reichenberger’s 39.38 mark in the 300 hurdles — a new AV-CTL DIV record. However, it was not Reichenberger’s personal best. His current school record is 39.30 set in the Belle Plaine Dragon Relays on April 14.
Reichenberger was more than a second faster than Hank Eck of Andale, who ran a 40.69 time Friday.Â
The WHS senior also placed first in the 110 meter hurdles, running in 14.66. He was almost a second faster than Brenden Horyna of Circle, who had a 15.51 time.
He along with Caden Rusk, Brenton Troutman and Matthew Mason also helped Wellington’s 4×100 meter relay team finish third with a 44.42 time.
Austin Pfalzgraf was a third place finisher in the 800 meter run with a a 2:09.05 time.
Other Wellington boy placers include:
•Remington Gilkey, sixth, 110-meter hurdles, 16.62.
•Gilkey, sixth, 300 hurdles, 44.76.
•4×400 meter relay, fifth, 3:43.41.
•Chris Kop, sixth, shot put, 41-10.
•Kop, sixth, discus, 123-0.

On the girls side, Wellington racked up a couple of first place finishes.
Jaycee Schettler finished first in the 200 meter dash with a 26.44 time.
The Wellington sophomore was locked into a duel with Jewell Bolden of Wichita Collegiate. Bolden took second in the 200 with a 26.66 time. However, Bolden would inch past Schettler in the 100. Bolden captured first with a 12.56 and Schettler had a 12.78 for second place.
Freshman Taylor McGlothlin made her mark by winning the 400 meter dash with a 1:01.83 time. Her teammate Leah Nelson finished second with a 1:03.27 time, giving Wellington 18 points in that event alone.
The Wellington 4×100 team consisting of Cajen Shore, Schettler, McGlothlin and Nelson finished second with a 51.38 time.
Other Wellington girl placers include:
•Sierra Walker, fifth, high jump, 4-6.
•Shore, third, pole vault, 8-0.
•Shore, fourth, long jump, 15’5.5.
•Shore, third, triple jump, 32’9â€.
