by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow – Remington Friend, 21, of Belle Plaine has been officially charged by the Sumner County Attorney’s office.

Friend has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child, a level 5 felony; electronic solicitation, a level 3 felony; sexual exploitation of a child, a level 5 felony; electronic solicitation, level 3 felony; aggravated indecent liberties with a child, a level 3 felony; indecent liberties with a child, a level 5 felony; and unlawful voluntary sexual relations, a level 8 felony.

Friend had been working as a para-professional at the Belle Plaine School District contracted through Sumner County Education Services, Interlocal 619. He was recently suspended. 

According to the court complaint, on March 31, 2018, Friend is accused of possessing separate nude pictures of a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl.  He also allegedly took photos of his private parts and sent it to one girl, and through various social media sites, messaged both asking them multiple times for nude photos of themselves.

Friend is also accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in December 2014.
