Scott Allen Funderburk, 69, Wellington: Oct. 23, 1953 – July 22, 2023
Scott Allen Funderburk, age 69, died at his home on Saturday, July 22, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born the son of Donald and Treva (Whaley) Funderburk on October 23, 1953, in Wellington. Scott and Ann Longnecker were united in marriage on September 13, 1980. Their journey together was filled with love, laughter, and many memories.
A man of adventure, talent, and wit, Scott lived a life full of exploration and accomplishment. As a native of Wellington, he dedicated his life to serving his community, first through the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, then the Wellington Police Force, and finally with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office and Community Corrections. He achieved a combined total of 47 years in law enforcement, having made a lasting impact on his community and those he worked with.
Beyond his commitment to law enforcement, Scott was an adventurous soul with a love for the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, a certified scuba diver, and an enthusiastic motorcycle rider with a fondness for Harley Davidson. His talents extended to the shooting range, where he became a Range Officer and an armorer specializing in Smith & Wesson. He was also a martial arts ground fighting instructor. At home, Scott was known for his talent behind the grill, often delighting family and friends with his culinary skills and juicy meats at gatherings. His enduring wit and infectious enthusiasm for life made these events memorable.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; son, Jason Funderburk of Wellington; son, John Funderburk and his wife Missy of Nokomis, Florida; son, Jeremy Funderburk of Wellington; daughter, Wanda Geist and her husband Brandon of Harper; sister, Dona Bower of Stillwater, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Bill Longnecker and his wife Debra of Wichita; brother-in-law, John Longnecker and his wife Erin of Wichita; brother-in-law, Bob Longnecker of Wichita; grandchildren: Brooke, Cassidy, Alyssa, Emma, Mariah, Carson, Zoey, Zander, Gia; and great-granddaughter, Cirilla Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Treva Funderburk.
The family will receive guests during a visitation at the funeral home on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Memorial services for Scott will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 9:00 am at First Christian Church, 123 West 9th Street, Wellington. A private interment will take place at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
