Several Easter events are planned in Wellington this weekend (add your church events below)

by Amber Schmitz, Sumner Newscow — In celebration of the Easter holiday, there are many activities taking place this week.

On Thursday, the Wellington Recreation Center is holding two egg hunts. The Easter Eggcellent Hunt is Thursday from 8-9 p.m. at Worden Park for families with children 10 years and under. Games will be played with the Easter bunny until it’s dark, when the hunt will start. Eggs will be filled with candy or coupons from sponsors, which includes gold eggs with a special currency. Easter treats will be enjoyed after the hunt. Participants are required to bring a flashlight, with no larger than 2 “D” batteries.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Although adults are not required to register and participate in the hunt, they can if they wish to. Memorial Auditorium will be the rain-out location. Registration is due Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 5 p.m., and there is a $6 charge per person, or $4 per person for those with three or more in their family. A $5 late fee will be charged, and there is a maximum of 80. The hunt will be held in ball field No. 1.

The Recreation Center’s Teen Glow Egg Hunt will also be held Thursday, Mar. 24, with a $5 fee per person for grades 6-12. Bring a flashlight and head to Worden Park for fun, great prizes, glow sticks, gift cards, candy, movie passes and more! The hunt will be held in the southeast soccer fields. Check-in starts at 8 p.m. and the race begins at 8:30 p.m.

The First United Methodist Church “Make Your Mark” Color Run will be held Saturday, Mar. 26. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 10 a.m. To register, or for more information, email wfumceducation@gmail.com or call Tammy Bradbury, 620-440-1590 or Lori Oathout, 620-326-0491. This is a fundraiser for the youth group’s Uganda mission trip.

There are three egg hunts that will be held Saturday, Mar. 26. At 8:30 a.m., Orscheln Farm and Home will hold a free egg hunt inside their store for ages 12 and under.
