Shirley Ruth Green, 77, Wellington: Sept. 13, 1946 – Nov. 22, 2023
Shirley Ruth Green, age 77, died surrounded by loved ones at her home in Wichita, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
She was born in Warrior, Alabama, on September 13, 1946, to Carl and Cora Mae (Poss) Mitchell. Shirley carried her southern roots with her to Oklahoma, where Shirley met and married the love of her life, James Green, on April 10, 1982.
Shirley had a soul as rich as her favorite Mexican casserole and as comforting as her biscuits and gravy. She had multiple jobs in her life but spent most of her days in the most noble of occupations – giving her love, time, and attention to her beloved family. She was a pillar of strength and a sanctuary of warmth for her family. Shirley was born a coal miner’s daughter. She loved the sound of country legends like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Patsy Cline playing in the background and the loving laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Shirley was a woman of sass, charm, and unapologetic indulgence.
Shirley’s life was a symphony of treasured moments, shared laughter, and heartfelt love. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, whether it was watching Hallmark Christmas movies with a family-sized bag of M&M’s or playing color by number on her phone. Shirley was a woman who knew how to celebrate life, one Diet Pepsi, one cup of coffee, and one cozy moment at a time.
She was preceded in death by her dear parents, Carl and Cora Mae Mitchell, her loving husband, James Green, sisters: Betty, Louise, Margret, and son, Jimmy Green.
She leaves behind her daughter, Wanda Gray of Wichita, Kansas; son, Jeff Reynolds and his wife Anna of Wellington, Kansas; son, Donnie Quinn of Drumwright, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Mariah Greeno, Jarvis Frakes, Preston Greeno, Courtney McDonald, Kayla Reynolds, Sierra Prather, Patricia Quinn, Stacy Green, Casey Green, Tracy Green; honorary grandchildren, Jessica Steffes, Sandra Vargas, Ricardo Cruz- a.k.a. Ricky Bobby; great-grandchildren: Landon, Jude, Grayson, Ava, Skylinn, Kai, Brinley, Asher, Zais, Zia, Dayel (Zoe), Tricia, Cayden, Malikye, Jayden, Addilynn, Michael, Kreid, Brooklynn, Callie Daye, Karriann, Ashta, Tasha, Justin; 5 great-great grandchildren; grand dog, Daisy Mae; and kitty, Milo.
