Shooting at Winfield bar results in death of one person
by Shane Farley, Newscow.net — New Year’s Day in Winfield turned deadly early Thursday when a man shot at Hot Shotz bar died as a result of his injuries.
Sometime after 1 a.m., local police were called to the bar, at 314 W. 8th, in regard to the shooting. They found a man not breathing and efforts to resuscitate him were not successful.
His name has not been made public so far.
Winfield Police Chief Danny Parker confirmed a 32-year-old man had died and said a homicide investigation was under way. Multiple police investigators were at the scene late into the night and several people were being interviewed in connection with the probe.
Parker would not say whether a suspect was in custody, however he did say he did not believe there to be any threat that should cause public concern.
No information was given as to a possible argument or altercation that may have occurred prior to shots being fired.
Some people who had been inside the bar said patrons were asked to leave the building immediately after the incident occurred. Officers spoke with some of those patrons as the crowd dispersed around 2 a.m.
Around 3:30 a.m., a convertible Chevy Camaro Z28, parked down the street from Hot Shotz, was towed away. Parker confirmed the car was towed by police in connection with the investigation into the shooting.
The Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. and KBI were assisting in the investigation.
