Socorro ‘Coco’ Anguiano gets named KHCA/KCAL 2016 Activity Professional of the Year
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Socorro “Coco†Anguiano is a multi-faceted woman, whether it be with the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce, her church, or during her stint in the military.
Perhaps, Anguiano’s greatest gift, though, is here work at Wellington Health and Rehabilitation. It was here that she received the Kansas Health Care Association/Kansas Center for Assistant Living Activity Professional of the year.
Friday afternoon, friends and family from across the area, congregated in the reception hall of Wellington Health and Rehabilitation to present her the state award at a surprise reception.
Anguiano is an active member of the WHAB PEAK Program Leadership team, and has initiated several new programs – one of them being “Helping the Homeless†After shopping for items, Anguiano assisted residents with packing bags, then delivering them to various people. The collaboration resulted in 40 bags being made and delivered – which inspired the residents greatly.
Coco’s Life Enhancement Strategies have helped to grow the activities program at the nursing home in west Wellington.
She has scheduled trips to the zoo, casino, restaurants, museums, car shows and movies. These are just a few of the outings she has planned for the residents.
Anguiano has dedicated her life working in the nursing home industry for the past 20 years. She also served in the military and supported our country for seven years as a financial clerk in the United State Army.
Outside of her normal activities program, she has participated in the annual flag football game, annual March Basketball Championship Team Tournament and the Annual World Baseball Game.
