Softball news: Wellington splits while South Haven sweeps
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington girls team had to wait a week to play Rose Hill, originally scheduled April 4. Wellington would split with Rose Hill, winning game one 12-2 in a five-inning run rule and losing to the Rockets 15-12 in the second. The Crusaders are now 4-4. 
Wellington scored nine runs in the fifth to pick up a victory sparked by a McKenna Jones home run and a double by Kaitlyn Hain. The Crusaders were in front 3-2 after three innings with Jacelyn Buck hitting a home run.
Brooke McCorkle threw a one-hitter, striking out three for the victory for Wellington.
In the second contest, Wellington lost a wild game that saw five lead changes, and both teams combining for 30 hits. Both teams also committed three errors.
Wellington would have three home runs in the losing cause. Jones had one in the third inning, Parkey hit one in the sixth as did Hain.
Wellington saw a 4-3 lead turn into a 10-4 deficit as Rose Hill led after five innings. The Crusaders then seized back the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately, Rose Hill scored four in the top of the seventh and Wellington was scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.
Rlye Rusk was the losing pitcher allowing 18 hits, two walks, and striking out three.

South Haven softball – The Cardinal girls softball team is now 5-3 with a doubleheader sweep against West Elk Thursday.
South Haven would beat the Patriots in game one 9-5. In the second contest, South Haven run-ruled West Elk 16-4. Brittney Byers had a home run in the fifth inning of game one. Cynea Wiley added to her home run total in game two with one in the bottom of the first and two triples.
