by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — South Haven basketball players Cooper Wolf and Macey Pond have been named Big Cheese Athletes of the Week.

After coming out of quarantine, Wolf, a senior, helped South Haven achieve huge victories over West Elk and Attica. In Saturday afternoon’s 69-54 victory over West Elk, Wolf had 31 points, eight rebounds, one assist and five steals. With that win, South Haven moved into a tie for first place in the South-Central Border League. Then on Tuesday, Wolf scored 15 points as South Haven knocked off Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Div. II No. 1 ranked Attica 47-43.

Pond, a junior, scored 12 points in South Haven’s big 33-30 upset over West Elk Saturday. She would go 7-of-8 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals are now alone in first place in the SCBL. Earlier in the week, she also scored 17 points in a loss to Norwich.

For their effort, Wolf and Pond are each a recipient of a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington in Wellington.
