South Haven girls fall to Linn in first round of state tournament

Sumner Newscow report — Top seed South Haven girls fell to eighth seed Linn 51-39 in the Class 1A Div. II tournament in Colby Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals end their season at 21-2.

This marked the fourth consecutive year, South Haven fell in the first round featuring the best small schools in the state.

Linn took a 14-11 first-quarter lead, but South Haven outscored Linn 13-11 in the second to make it virtually a stalemate 25-24 at the half. Linn pulled away in the second half outscoring the Cardinals 19-13 and 7-2 in the third and fourth quarter for the victory.

Kelly Theurer led South Haven with 9.

South Haven was ice cold for the game, going 12 of 41 for 29.3 percent. It was especially bad in the second half going 3 of 17. Linn also outrebounded South Haven 35 to 23.

Scoring for the Cardinals were: Kelly Theurer 9, Adeel Helsel 8, Addison Heater 6, Aubrey Pond 5, Rahlee Colwell 5, Ayleigh Nixon 2, Mackenzie Callison 2, Adalyn Irey 2.
