Both tied for first with a 70 score in the 14-team tournament and Saffell winning the tournament tie-breaking playoff. Layton Love of Maize South finished second with a 71 and Luke Scheufler of Wichita Trinity placed fourth with a 72.

Jace Lawrence and Brett Wyckoff both shot an 82 for a 14th place tie.
Wellington head coach James Ginter had this to say:
“Today was another very successful day for the WHS men’s golf team. WHS golfers were able to capture first place at the Hesston invitational! All six WHS golfers played extremely well today. Today’s effort was led by Blake Saffell and Dietrich Gill, both who shot one under par 70s, tying four top medalists.”
Ginter said Saffell and Gill then proceeded to play a sudden-death playoff for top medalist. The playoff lasted two holes and Saffell won with a par on the second hole.
“WHS golfers are playing their best as we near the playoff portion of our season,” Ginter said. “We finish our regular season with the tournament on Friday, and tournaments on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Then league, regionals and state will then follow. Proud of these boys and our effort today.”
