Schedule changes:
As of 10:25 a.m. this is what we have: the Wellington varsity tennis tournament at Chaparral has been postponed due to the weather. No makeup date has been set yet. The Wellington athletic officials are going to wait until 1 p.m. to make a decision on junior varsity tennis and C team baseball set for today.
Wellington golf:
The varsity golf team placed fourth overall in the high school invitational at Crestview Country Club in a 13-team tournament.
“The varsity golf started out pretty well today considering the conditions,” said Vanessa Sawyer, assistant WHS golf coach about the cold day.
WHS senior Ty Wilson finished with a 79 and a 7-over, placing sixth. He was in a four-way tie at 79 and won the scorecard playoff.
Freshman Blake Saffell made his high school debut and got off to a little rocky start. He shot an 83.
“He took a quad on the first hole hitting it in the water,” Sawyer said. “But he quickly turned it around only going 4-over on the rest of the round. He was very consistent with a few bogeys here and there.”
Jace Lawrence shot an 85. Blake Bales shot an 83.
“He was doing really well to begin with and fell off a little towards the end,” Sawyer said.
Jalen Harris, a senior, finished with a 98. Ryland Blasi, which Sawyer said was the only player in shorts, placed with a 101.
The high score was 70 on a day that never got above 45 degrees all day. At least it wasn’t windy like today!
