Sumner County Commissioner Minutes: August 24 – August 25, 2020
Sumner Newscow report — The following are Sumner County Commissioner minutes for August 24 and August 25:
August 24, 2020 – 9 a.m.
The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission Room of the Sumner County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman John Cooney, Commissioner Steve Warner, and Commissioner Jim Newell. Also present were County Clerk Debra A. Norris and 80th House Representative Bill Rhiley.
The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved the minutes of August 17 and 18.
Sumner Mental Health Chief Executive Officer Rick Gaskill provided the Commission with departmental updates.
County Counselor Jack Potucek provided general reviews and updates.
The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved current year abatement orders in the amount of $247.46. Prior year abatements were also approved in the amount of $503.93.
There being no further business, the Board of County Commissioners adjourned at 11:19 a.m.
August 25, 2020 – 9 a.m.
The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission Room of the Sumner County Courthouse. Those present were Vice-Chairman Steve Warner and Commissioner Jim Newell. Chairman John Cooney was absent. Also present were County Clerk Debra A. Norris and 80th House Representative Bill Rhiley.
Deputy Clerk Diana Aufdengarten and Clerk Norris discussed the plans for students returning to school with families employed by the County. The eFMLA plan was also discussed. More information will be presented as it is received.
A letter requesting a road vacation was presented by Gary Allender to the Commission for review. The Commission will schedule a public hearing at a later date.
Health Department Director Laura Rettig provided departmental updates to the Commission. Discussion included COVID cases, testing and grant applications. Director Rettig advised the flu vaccine should be available in September and will strongly encourage the public to get vaccinated. The Commission authorized payment for employees to receive the flu shot.
County Counselor Jack Potucek provided general reviews and updates.
The Commission spoke by speakerphone with Scott Dykstra concerning issues at Suppesville Sewer District. Mr. Dykstra has spoken with Planning and Zoning on the issues. The Commission will review the issues expressed.
The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved current year abatement orders in the amount of $12.00.
The Commission reviewed and approved month-end payables in the amount of $404,608.92.
There being no further business, the Board of County Commissioners adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
