Sumner County Commissioner minutes: Jan. 1 – Jan. 2, 2024

January 1, 2024 – 9 a.m.

The Board of County Commissioners did not meet in observance of the New Year Holiday.

January 2, 2024 – 9 a.m.

The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission room of the Sumner County Courthouse.  Those present were Chairman John Cooney, Commissioner Jim Newell and Commissioner Steve Warner.  County Clerk Debra A. Norris was also present.

The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved minutes of December 25 and 26.

At 9:30 a.m., the Commission held a public hearing on zoning case No. 06PC-23 with Planning and Zoning Director Jon Bristor. The application by Drury Dam Project LLC, Rick Conner, Agent requesting zone change from “R-D” rural district to “G-1” Recreational District.  The tract contains 11.7 acres located at 1770 S. Kern Lane, Caldwell, KS. One person presented opposition during the zoning meeting.  The Planning Commission, with nine members present, approved the zoning request.  After discussion, the Commission unanimously approved and adopted Resolution No. 2024-01.

A second zoning case, No. 07PC-23, with Director Bristor for conditional use, Case No. 07PC-23.  The same applicant wishes to add to the RV Park for the purpose of recreational vehicle slips for camping.  The Planning Commission, with nine members present, approved 8 yes and 1 no.  After discussion, the Commission unanimously approved and adopted Resolution No. 2024-02.

A prepared engagement letter for 2024 was presented from Parman, Tanner, Soule and Jackson CPAs for 2025 budget preparation.  After review and discussion, the Commission unanimously authorized the Chairman to sign the engagement letter.

County Counselor Jack Potucek provided general reviews and updates to the Commission.

At 10:32 a.m., upon unanimous vote, the Commission entered into an executive session for 10 minutes with Counselor Potucek for an attorney/client privileged matter.  Clerk Norris was asked to remain in the meeting.  At 10:42 a.m., the Commission reconvened in open session.  No binding action was taken as a result of the executive session.

There being no further business, the Board of County adjourned at 11:51 a.m.
