Sumner County Commissioner minutes: Oct. 24 – Oct. 25, 2022 report
Sumner Newscow report — The following are the Sumner County Commissioner meeting notes for Oct. 24 – Oct. 25. These minutes were approved by the Sumner County Commissioners this week:
October 24, 2022 – 9 a.m.
The Board of County Commissioners met in a regular session in the Commission room of the Sumner County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman Steve Warner, Commissioner Jim Newell and Commissioner John Cooney. Also present were County Clerk Debra A. Norris and 80th House Representative Bill Rhiley.
The Commission reviewed and unanimously approved the minutes of October 17 and 18.
Emergency Management Director James Fair discussed a county-wide burn ban for Sumner County. Due to dryer conditions, it was discussed, with subsequent rain events to review later.
County Treasurer Dannetta Cook discussed writing off of unpaid personal property more than 20 years delinquent. A prepared resolution was presented to the Commission for adoption. After discussion, the Commission unanimously adopted Resolution NO. 2022-32.
Sheriff Darren Chambers and Undersheriff Mike Westmoreland discussed financial policy with the Commission. The discussion also included the purchase of vehicles. Due to this late date in the year, it was advised by the Sheriff to encumber the necessary funds, waiting for delivery.
Dave Hickman, Health Insurance Cooperative Agency, provided renewal information to the Commission.
Deputy Clerk Diana Aufdengarten was also present. The Commission will review an additional program, WE CARE CONNECT, a caring and compassionate program for the people in their time of need. Mr. Hickman advised necessary open enrollment paperwork will be available for November open enrollment.
Randy Hein, K-State Extension Officer, and Joe Struble, Maintenance Director, met with the Commission on issues concerning landscaping around the Raymond Frye Complex. County Counselor Jack Potucek was also present. It is agreed to clean out the existing beds, adding rock for easy maintenance.
Counselor Potucek provided a general review and updates.
At 11:37 a.m., upon unanimous vote, the Commission entered into an executive session for 10 minutes with Counselor Potucek for an attorney/client privileged matter. Clerk Norris was asked to remain in the meeting. At 11:47 a.m., the Commission reconvened in an open session. No binding action was taken as a result of the executive session.
There being no further business, the Board of County Commissioners adjourned at 11:57 a.m.
October 25, 2022 – 9 a.m.
The Board of County Commissioners did not meet due to a lack of agenda.
