Sumner County Conservation District presents ‘Focus on the Farmer’

Sumner Newscow report – Mark your calendar and make plans to attend the 76th Bankers Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting of the Sumner County Conservation District. The event will be held Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson in Wellington.

The theme for this year’s event is “Focus on the Farmer” and the evening will be filled with awards, video presentations, special drawings and a menagerie of door prizes.

Bankers Awards for Conservation

One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of the 2018 Bankers Award for Soil Conservation.

Leonard and Lois Rausch are the recipients of the Soil Conservation Award for 2018.

A video featuring the various conservation practices Rausch has implemented on his farm located in the Belle Plaine area.

The Soil Conservation Award is sponsored by the Sumner County Bankers Association in conjunction with the Kansas Bankers Association. A member of the county association will be at the dinner to present the awards.

Once again, the Sumner County Bankers Association will provide the catered buffet-style meal. Chris Kreifels of C&A Gametime Grillers of Wellington will be preparing the meal.

Other awards to be presented during the evening include the winners in the Coloring and Poster Contest and the Teacher Appreciation Award. One lucky winner will receive the Email Response Drawing and there will be plenty of door prizes provided by various local and area businesses.

Following the meal and awards presentations the Board of Supervisors for the Sumner County Conservation District will hold the annual Business Meeting. Business to be conducted will include the annual report of the District’s 2018 activities, the financial report and the election of one Board Supervisor. Current Board Supervisor Steven Schmidt has agreed to be included on the ballot. In addition, nominees from the floor will also be accepted as well as write-in votes. This is a three-year term. Voting guidelines and ballots will be available at the meeting.

Plan to come early to see the display of the art work created by the talented youth of Sumner County and then stay until the end for a chance to win a door prize.

The deadline for reservations is Feb. 6. Please call 620-326-2269 or email sccdbu@gmail.com with your information. Seating is limited, so be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible.
