Sumner County Health Department will plan to distribute Moderna boosters once they become available

Sumner Newscow report — The Sumner County Health Department issued the following statement concerning the Moderna booster in the COVID-19 vaccination this morning.

Moderna Booster doses — not to be confused the third additional dose — have not yet officially been authorized by the CDC.

We are still in the planning stages for booster doses – so we will make an announcement once the Moderna boosters have been officially authorized on how we will do them.  We also have to have KDHE’s guidance before giving Moderna booster doses.

Attached is some information on the approval process which is more than just the FDA’s approval:

“FDA’s Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) reviewed the data and voted to recommend that FDA authorize a booster dose of Moderna vaccine.

If FDA accepts VRBPAC’ recommendation, it will be allowed to be given to certain adults who got the primary two-dose series of Moderna vaccine at least six months ago, including: adults 65+ , people 18-65 that work or live somewhere that puts them at high risk of getting COVID-19.

Next steps: If FDA authorizes the Moderna booster dose, the CDC’s advisory committee will meet next week to review the data and vote on whether to recommend. CDC Diretor would then make the final decision on recommendations for Moderna’s booster dose. Stay tuned.”
