Top of Argonia’s Class: Baylee Jordan Booker, Cora Vineyard

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — In recognition of the Sumner County graduating seniors, we are starting a new feature: “Top of the Class of 2019” featuring unique questions for those that who were named Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and in Wellington’s case Summa Cum Laude. We will feature one school per day in alphabetical order.

Today’s school is Argonia.

Valedictorian: Baylee Jordan Booker.

BAYLEE BOOKER

  • Work Ethic Gold Certificate all four years of high school
  • Academic All-League Recipient
  • Citizenship Award my senior year of high school
  • Dale M. Dennis Excellence in Education Award
  • Completed 35 credit hours while in high school
  • Broke a basketball record my freshman year (8-8 3’s in a game)
  • All-league first team in volleyball junior and senior year also named all-state honorable mention junior year
  • All-league 2nd team in basketball my junior year and all-league first team my senior year
  • Qualifying for state track in the 4x800m relay my freshman year
  • Sub-state runner up in volleyball my junior and senior year as well as my senior year of basketball
  • League Champions in volleyball my junior and senior year and my senior year in basketball

Future aspirations: Graduate from Pittsburg State University with a bachelors in Elementary Education.

Favorite Past Time: Basketball and Volleyball.

Favorite T.V. Show: Friends.

Favorite Movie: Wonder.

Favorite Book: Any Dr. Seuss.

Favorite Teacher: Mr. Mead (Jon Mead).

People I Admire Most: My parents and sisters.

Most Memorable school moment: Setting a state record in my freshman year in basketball.

Favorite Quote: God gave you fingerprints that no one else has so you can leave an imprint that no one else can.

CORA VINEYARD

Parents: Wayne and Sarah Vineyard

HS Accomplishments: Freshman year (2015-2016) I was awarded A Honor-Roll first and second semester, received Volleyball All-League Honorable Mention, and received Basketball All-League First Team along with All-State Honorable Mention, was freshman representative for my school Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) Club, was an active member in Student Council, competed in track, participated in vocal, and received a Work Ethic Gold Award/Certificate.

Sophomore year (2016-2017) I was awarded A Honor Roll first and second semester, received Volleyball All-League first team and All-State Honorable Mention, qualified for state track, received Basketball All-League First Team and All-State Third Team, became a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), was a member of the Student Council, participated in vocal, was a member of Math Club, sophomore representative for KAY Club, and received Work Ethic Gold Award/Certificate.

Junior year (2017-2018) I was awarded A Honor Roll first and second semester, earned Captain of my Volleyball team along with receiving All-League First Team and All-State First Team, received Basketball All-League First Team and All-State First Team, became a member of Future Christian Athletes (FCA), was junior representative for KAY Club, was a member of NHS, became Vice-President of Student Council, participated in track, and earned Work Ethic Gold Award/Certificate.

Senior year (2018-2019) is not yet completed but so far, I was voted Captain for my Volleyball team along with All-League First Team and All-State Second Team, Captain of my Basketball team, Senior Representative of KAY Club, a member of FCA and Vice-President of NHS.

Future aspirations: To be a great mom and wife.

Favorite past time: Sports and coloring.

Favorite TV show: The 100.

Favorite movie:  Too many to choose.

Favorite book: None, I don’t like reading

Favorite teacher: Mr. Neal.

People I admire most: Mom, Dad, and Mr. Neal.

Memorable school moment: Winning every volleyball tournament this year with my sister right by my side.
