Woodlawn Avenue accident caused electrical outage Tuesday morning.

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow —  On Tuesday, Oct. 7 around 8:15 a.m. at the 500 block of North Woodlawn, Wellington police investigated a single vehicle accident.

According to a Wellington Police Department press release, Tremain Gingerich, 18, of Wellington was driving northbound in a 1991 Honda on Woodlawn. He veered left and struck a city of Wellington utility poll on the westside of the roadway causing a power outage for the east side Wellington residents for several minutes.

Gingerich was examined at the scene by Wellington EMS and refused medical attention. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sumner County Jail. He is awaiting the charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and seatbelt violation.

The Wellington City Electric department crews were on the scene with power being restored within a short amount of time with only a slight disruption of service.

Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said speed and impairment was a contributing factor. There was no estimate on the amount of damage to the Honda or the utility pole.
