(Updated with driver’s names) Two-car collision in Wellington results in drivers being transported to SRMC Tuesday morning
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A two-car accident occurred at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday morning at the 2000 Block of East U.S. 160 just north of the Wellington Wal-Mart.
A 2012 Chevy Tahoe with a Texas license plate, operated by Howard Freemyer, 71, was stopped in eastbound traffic to make a left hand turn when it was struck from behind by a 2013 Chrysler van rental with Missouri license plate, operated by Marsha Dugan, 58, Wellington. Both drivers were transported from the scene by Wellington EMS to Sumner Regional Medical Center.Â
Dugan sustained a broken leg, Heath said. She was treated at SRMC and then was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment. She had rented to van because she was attending a dance recital in Branson, Mo.
One passenger from the van sustained minor injuries and was transported to SRMC by private vehicle. U.S. 160 was closed for about an hour while authorities investigated the accident. Eastbound drivers were directed south of McDonald’s Restaurant entrance through the Wal-Mart parking lot. The westbound drivers were directed north on Meridian Road.
