Veteran’s Program slated in Wellington and Belle Plaine on Wednesday

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Veteran’s Day Program will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Wellington High School and Belle Plaine. Information of both programs are as follows:

Wellington High School:

Welcome: Commander Jim Lockhart.

Post colors: Color Guard: Dan Lovell and David Carroll.

Star Spangled Banner: Wellington High School Band – Ben Olson, director.

Pledge of Allegiance: Commander Lockhart.

Opening prayer: Wayne White, Chaplain American Legion.

Proclamation: Mayor Shelley Hansel.

The Brave – Arrangement by John Riggio: Fifth grade students of Kennedy, Lincoln, Eisenhower and Washington schools. Linda Ballard and Pamela Thompson, directors.

God Bless the USA – Lee Greenwood: Wellington Middle School After School students – Cindy Tracy, director.

In Flanders Fields – Wellington High School Choral and Madrigals: Jessica Coldwell, director.

Letters to home: by Wellington High School Drama Class.

Introduction to speaker: Jim Valentine, Vietnam War Veteran, Army.

Speaker: Doug Smith, Vietnam War Veteran Army.

Salute to America’s Finest, arrangement Paul Lavendar: Ben Olson, director.

Closing prayer: Chaplain Whte.

Dismissal: Commander Lockhart.

Belle Plaine High School:

Belle Plaine High School will be hosting the annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the High School Gym.  If you are a local veteran and would like to be a part of the ceremony, please contact the High School office at (620)488-2421.

Local citizens and community are invited to join the school in honoring the local veterans.  In order to provide proper seating, please arrive 15 minutes early so that we may start the program promptly at 2 p.m.
