Victor Stewart Nelson, 62, Wellington: Jan. 18, 1959 – June 23, 2021

Victor Nelson

Victor Stewart Nelson of Wellington died with his family by his side on June 23, 2021 at the age of 62. Victor was born the son of Victor Eugene Nelson and Phyllis (Johnson) Nelson on January 18, 1959 in Molene, Illinois. On September 2, 2014 Victor married Hettie Ferguson. Together they celebrated 6 years of marriage.

Vic was incredibly smart. There were few subjects that he didn’t know about. He loved to tell silly dad jokes. He really liked his work at H&R Block and all of his co-workers. Always ready to help them when they needed help. He loved camping and fishing even in the rain or cold.

Vic’s greatest passion was the scouts and especially Troop 304. He helped 2 scouts become Eagle Scouts from this troop. When all other Scoutmasters moved away Vic became the Scoutmaster of the troop. He loved watching the boys grow from little boys into young independent gentlemen able to take care of themselves.

Survivors include his wife, Hettie Nelson of Wellington; his parents, Victor and Phyllis Nelson of Baldwin City; daughter, Amy Schaefer (Jared) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Isaac Nelson (Kari Coster) of Wichita; son, Gabe Nelson (Rebecca Betts) of Queensland, Australia; daughter, Helen McGee (Luke Parris) of Wichita; son, Victor Robert Nelson of Wichita; step-children: Ariel Peeler (Austin) of Wichita;  Derick Kotchavar, Colton Ferguson and Kristen Kotchavar all of Wellington, grandchildren: Linley, Avia and Ellis Schaefer, Lily and Aliya McGee and Lucy Nelson.
