Wednesday will have a ‘Red Flag Warning’ for Sumner County due to potential wind gusts up to 55 mph
Sumner Newscow report — The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a “Red Flag Warning” that includes Sumner County…in effect from 11 a.m. and until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Northwesterly winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 55 mph, combined with low relative humidities and extremely dry vegetation have prompted this warning. Any outdoor fire that develops will become out of control rapidly, and all outdoor burning should be avoided.
During a Red Flag Warning or wind advisory event in Sumner County. All outdoor burning is prohibited in Sumner County, as per Sumner County Resolution 2011-47.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
