Wellington board holds special meeting to make 4 hires, and discuss assistant superintendent search
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington school board held a special meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 25. According to a report supplied by Wellington Superintendent Mark Whitener, the board took action on several personnel, approved an out of state trip, discussed the process for hiring a new assist superintendent and heard a report from the WHS Building Leadership Team.

The board made the following hirings:
•Amy O’Connor as Kansas Reading Roadmap Coordinator which comes from a $170,000 grant to provide intensive reading interventions for elementary students.
•Lindsey Jones as fifth grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary, filling the position left open by O’Connor who moved to KRR Coordinator;
•Ryan Jenkins as sixth grade math teacher at Wellington Middle School;
•Kristin White as library/tech integration specialist at Wellington Middle School for 2017-18.

An out of state trip for the Wellington Middle School boys basketball was approved by the board. Students will travel to Stillwater Okla. on Jan. 28.Â

The board discussed posting the assistant superintendent position. A committee, including district office administration and Dr. Jackie Glasgow will review applications and conduct interviews.

The high school building leadership team gave a presentation regarding “Crusader Connections†which is a WHS elective, advisory hour.
During CC each day, students meet with their advisor, who will monitor grades, connects students to scholarships, provides character education and guides students in career exploration.
As part of the school’s career exploration, WHS Principal Adam Hatfield spoke on the schools desire to establish business and industry internships, especially for seniors. He also explained the need for a position that would focus on individual plans of study and career internships.
