Sumner Newscow report — The 2o24 Wellington boys golf team came home with a sixth-place finish while qualifying for the second day at the McPherson Turkey Creek Golf Course.

The Crusaders not only fought against the best golfers in 4A but also weird weather that saw rain, cold and wind. After two days of golf and 36 holes, Wellington finished with a 657.

Wellington ends the season without one senior on the team and should return the full team intact. 2025 should be an interesting year.

Wamego ran away with the Class 4A State Championship shooting a 589. McPherson was 40 strokes back with a 629. Circle finished one stroke higher for third with a 630. Bishop Miege shot a 634 for fourth, and Chanute had a 653 for fifth.

Wellington junior Derek Rausch tied for 11th during his two days.

Crusader Derek Rausch was the top golfer shooting a collective 155 for 11th place. He shot a 74 on day one and an 81 on the second day. Colten Clift finished 32nd with a 79 on day one and 87 on day two.

Ethan Brungardt shot a 172 – 79th on day one and 93 on day two. He tied for 38th place.

Cameron Rosenberg rounded out the team scoring, shooting 88 on both days for a collective 176 and 44th place.

Owen Farley scored an 84 on day one and 98 on day two to finish with a 182 and 48th place. Boston Lawrence shot a 103 on day one and 85 on day two for a 188 collective score and 52nd place.

This marked a significant improvement for the team since 2024. Last year, Wellington failed to qualify as a team on day two. The top six teams of the 12 that qualified got to play a second day.
