WHS basketball- 

The Wellington boys fell in the first round of the Chaparral basketball tournament against Clearwater 54-27.

Clearwater held an 8-6 first quarter lead and expanded it to 20-10 at the half.

The Crusaders really couldn’t find the rim for the rest of the game. Clearwater would outscore Wellington 20-8 in the third quarter and 14-9 in the fourth to coast to victory.

Brian Peck was the leading scorer for Wellington with 10 points. Clearwater was led by Frickey with 18 and Neises with 13.

Wellington will battle Kingman in the losers bracket on Friday at 3 p.m. Kingman lost to Arkansas City 75-71 in double overtime.

Mulvane tournament- 

The 2013 Mulvane Wildcat Classic was released on Wednesday. Wellington, the defending champions, will be a fourth seed in the tournament and will battle the Wichita Defenders – a team assembled by home-school athletes on Monday at 7:40 p.m. The bracket is here.

Wellington comes into the tournament at 6-3. Garden Plain is the top seed at 9-1. Mulvane is 7-3 and Clearwater is 6-3. The Defenders are 10-8 as the fifth seed. Rounding out the tournament are: Winfield at 3-6, Campus at 3-7 and Arkansas City 0-9.

Wellington wrestling

Wellington gets back in dual action, hopefully a lot less injured, with a  triangular at home at the WHS gymnasium with Andale and Clearwater.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. Andale is ranked No. 3 in the state as a team.

The Wellington teams battle Ark City tonight.

The schedule is as follows:

Girls – home, 8B 4 p.m, 7A 5:15 p.m., 8A 6:30 p.m. Boys – away, 7A/8B 5 p.m, 7B/8A 6:30 p.m.

The second round starts for the boys in the South-Central Border League Tournament held at Cowley College in Arkansas City.
