by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Any thoughts of repeating a big upset against Buhler like last year were quickly extinguished by the Maroon Crusaders, who came in and throttled Wellington 35-3.
This game had the makings of a blowout as Buhler built a 21-0 lead. Wellington held Buhler scoreless in the second quarter but the Maroon would add a touchdown in the third and fourth quarter to pick up the victory. The Dukes avoided a shutout when Jack Wright hit a 29-yard field goal as the clock ran out.
Wellington is now 2-4 and has likely seen its last home game of the season. The Dukes will play at Mulvane next Friday and more than likely will play on the road in the play-in game against a higher seed opponent.

Wellington’s double-reverse call came close to paydirt if it weren’t for Javohn Ostrom ruining the play for Wellington’s Cope Henry.
This game again reiterated some of the same problems that have plagued Wellington all season. The Dukes committed four turnovers, including three interceptions (two for touchdowns). Malachi Rogers had a rough game at quarterback, going 2-of-10 for 20 yards. Wellington’s rushing offense accumulated 148 yards for the night, but a lot of that came on the final drive when the game was out-of-hand and Buhler had reserves in the lineup.
Wellington racked up 70 yards in penalties. Buhler had more with 92 yards – including four unsportsmanlike penalties.
Just like last week, Wellington was decimated by one running back. This time it was Sam Elliot, who ran for 201 yards on 30 carries.
