Wellington Fire Chief urges safety this Fourth of July season
by Tim Hay, Wellington Fire Chief — Wellington Fire and EMS departments want everyone to be careful and help prevent fires this 4th of July. Fireworks can be sold July 1 through July 4 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Discharge is July 1 through July 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Fireworks cause thousands of injuries each year primarily to children. The hands and face are the primary areas that are injured. Make sure children are monitored at all times.Â
Avoid alcohol when discharging fireworks and keep those watching at a safe distance. Always wet down fireworks after discharging. Do not place discharged fireworks in a box or other container and keep inside or near combustibles. Never discharge fireworks near dry vegetation, structures or vehicles. Abide by the times of discharge!! Consider how fireworks affects your neighbors and pets.Â
