Wellington Fire/EMS responds to structure fire in the 800 block of East 4th St.

Sumner Newscow report — The following is a press release issued this morning from the Wellington Fire/EMS Department:

On Saturday morning, the Wellington Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 800 block of East 4th Street, Wellington. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames on both the front and east sides of the residence. Crews initiated a rapid fire attack and successfully brought the blaze under control.

Two individuals were inside the home at the time of the incident; fortunately, neither sustained injuries.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

Wellington Fire/EMS received support from Sumner County Fire District 9, Oxford Fire, Mayfield Fire, Wellington Police Department, Kansas Gas Service, and the City of Wellington Electric Department. The response included five engines, one ladder truck, one ambulance, one squad, and chief vehicles, with a total of 25 fire personnel on scene.

Shortly after the E 4th Street fire, Wellington Fire Rescue was dispatched to a second house fire on W 7th Street. Upon arrival, crews discovered an electrical box had caught fire.

Throughout the shift on October 18, Wellington Fire Rescue responded to 13 calls, including medical transfers to Wichita and a medical emergency in Oxford.
