By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington girls golf team has been named the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week.
For the past month, the girls’ golfers have deserved the award, but we kept delaying making them that because they kept doing bigger and better things. They had won six of eight tournaments going into the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III and IV tournament in Hesston yesterday. Make that seven tournament championships as the girls dominated the competition with a 330 score, 22 strokes better than Winfield, that finished with a 352 to become league champions.
This was not only the best team score of the season with a 330 (the previous best was 362). It also had all six golfers make all league by placing in the top 12 (see individual scores here).
For their effort, Kasiah Richmond, Claire Ginter, Taryn Viramontes, Aubrey Hunt, Presley Cornejo, Elly DeJarnett are rewarded each a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
