Wellington girls golf team qualifies for Day 2, trails Topeka Hayden by 4 strokes

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington girls golf team has qualified for day two of the Class 4A State Tournament in Hesston. The Crusaders are currently in second place, four strokes behind Topeka Hayden after 18 holes on Monday.

Wellington currently has a +73 team score. Topeka Hayden is in first place with a +69. McPherson has a +79, Augusta +92, Baldwin +96 and Buhler +96. The other six teams have been eliminated: Bishop Miege, Eudora, Winfield, Chanute, Pratt, and Andale.  The team scores can be found here.

Individually, Claire Ginter is fifth, shooting an 80, eight over par. Taryn Viramontes is eighth with an 84, 12 over par. Presley Cornejo is 23rd place with a 21-over par, or 93.

Haley Gulick is 42nd with a 32-over par for a 104 to round out the team scores.

The other two Wellington girls are Kenna Maxwell with a +41 and Belle Angleton with a +43.

Tomorrow, they will do another 18 holes to determine the state championship.
