Wellington girls golfers place fourth in McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course

Wellington’s top three girls golfers: Raynee Miller, Georgia Gulick and Taryn Viramontes.

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington girls’ golf team had a great day on the course at the McPherson Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course on Thursday. This tournament had powerhouse 5A Andover and Kaupan, who finished first and second. McPherson did get the best of us today on their home course, but our team shot a program record 324, beating our previous record of 330 in 2022. We finished fourth, 10 shots behind McPherson.

The Crusaders were led by senior Taryn Viramontes, who had a rough start but played well the rest of the way and shot a 79. This finished her in the medals, tied for 13th. Freshmen Raynee Miller and Georgia Gulick shot PRs today, shooting 81 and tying for 14th. Kaselynn Carroll shot an 82, and Claire Ginter shot an 83. Presley Cornejo shot a 90, and Haley Gulick shot 93.

“We were super proud of the girls to stay mentally tough on an extremely wet course today,” said Vanessa Sawyer, co-head Wellington girls golf coach. “McPherson had received about 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours after receiving record amounts over the last month.”
