Wellington girls place 2nd in regional, Megan Campbell, Holly Wright becomes 4-time state qualifier
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington girls track team placed second in the Class 4A Regional in Andale Friday.
Wellington accumulated 79 points. Andale had 79 and Pratt had 66.5. Andale was also the winner of the boys with 168. Wellington had 7.
As expected, Wellington High School Senior Megan Campbell was sensational. She became a four-time state qualifier in the 100, 200, 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relays. She wasn’t the only one: Holly Wright is a four-time state placer in the 200, the 100 meter hurdles, and the two relay teams.Â
The 4×100 team of Micah Rogers, Dietra Sober, Campbell and Holly Wright placed second behind Andale with a 50.01 time just a split second behind Andale’s foursome with a 49.73 time.
In the 4×400 relay, Wellington broke another record. Cabriel Roe, Leah Nelson, Wright and Campbell ran the race at 4:07.01. According to varsitykansas.com, Campbell ran a 59-second split.
Other qualifiers were Leah Nelson in the 400, Avery Lewellen in the high jump; and Halynn Page in the shot put.
Ian Stallbaumer placed second in the boys pole vault and will head to state.
