Wellington golfers finish third in home invite; at Terradyne Country Club today

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington boys golf team hosted its annual invitational on Thursday. It was cold and windy and just downright miserable. Subsequently, scores soared.

Wellington finished third in the 13-team field. Andover won the event with a 332. Augusta followed with 349 and Wellington had a 351. Other team scores were: Hesston 374, Andover Central 382, Goddard 393, Winfield 395, Andale 406, Rose Hill 413, Circle 415, Maize 421, Mulvane 468 and Clearwater 494.

Deitrek Gill won the event shooting 10-over par for an 80. He was one stroke better than Andover golfers Aiden Nguyen and James Hill, who both shot 81s.

Brett Wyckoff finished ninth for Wellington. He shot an 87 for 17-over par. Owen Farley shot a 91 and placed 16th with a 21-over par. Caden Lawrence rounded out the team scoring with a 93 for 23-over and 19th place.

Other Wellington scores and placings were:

•Kaeden Gill, 94, 22nd;

•Laken Smith, 94, 23rd;

•R.J. Clift, 94, 24th;

•Derek Rausch, 111, 60th;

•Justin Norris, 113, 64th;

•Riddik Jeffries, 123, 74th.

The Wellington golf team is at Terradyne Country Club in Andover today.
