Wellington golfers Owen Farley and Ethan Brungardt advance to day 2, team has been eliminated

Sumner Newscow report — Two Wellington boys’ golf players are playing on the second day of the Class 4A KSHSAA Boys State Championship.

Owen Farley and Ethan Brungardt are currently playing after qualifying as individuals on Day 1. The boys’ Day 2 started this morning.

Wellington has been eliminated as a team. The Crusaders finished eighth on Day One with a +53 cumulative score at Newton’s Sand Creek Golf Course. They needed to finish in the top six to qualify as a team for day 2. Wamego (+21), Topeka Hayden (+28), SM Bishop Miege (+35), Andale (+37), Circle (+43), and Buhler (+44) all qualified for Day 2. Independence (+45), Wellington (+51), Fort Scott (+56), Pratt (+56), Ottawa (+63), and Concordia (+72) all finished out of the top six and were eliminated as teams.

Farley and Brungardt both finished high enough to qualify individually for Day 2. Farley shot an 8 over par on Day one, good enough for 14th place. Brungardt shot a +10 for 26th place.

Other Wellington golfers, who are not playing, were:

•Cameron Bosenberg, +15, 50th place.

•Derek Rausch, +18, 62nd place. (This rounded out the team scoring.)

•Colten Clift, +19, 66th place.

•Boston Lawrence, +20, 67th place.
